The condition of the heart has always been important to God! To the Hebrew people the heart is considered the very center of man’s being; it images the thoughts, the reflections and the will of each person.
Several weeks ago while Steve was speaking, he mentioned the need for an “undivided heart”. That really caused me to think.
The heart reveals our purpose and direction in life. If we are bent toward evil, our heart will cause us to speak ungodly things and will take us in that direction. But if our desire is to live a life that honors the Lord in all that we do, this desire will lead us into joy and a fulfilled life.
David was very acquainted with the heart and how God knows it. In Psalm 139 he expressed clearly that God knows everything our heart considers, even before we realize we’ve thought it. And David fully opened his heart to God.
When we come to understand the importance of us having a clean heart, we will become more focused on God. We will then not have our feet in two different camps. An undivided heart, when focused on God and His purposes, is a beautiful heart – one that God will trust.
